Things I wish Facebook had (part 1)

1. It would be nice if Facebook allowed you to categorize friends (privately). Categories I would use are: family, close friends, professional, acquaintances. Then, when I post, I would like the option to check which categories get to see my post. Even better, I would like to have the option to filter what I see in my News Feed. Why? While I would like to keep up with my friends, I want to avoid the ongoing soap operas. Furthermore, I don't want to contribute to them. While my sister (and other family members) might be interested to know that we are having a family recipe handed down from prior generations, the VP of some XYZ corporation in Chicago doesn't care.

2. It would be nice if Groups had the ability to have pages where static content about the group can be posted. For instance, I could use a page for important links related to the group topic. I realize I can post this on the Wall or Discussions but these tend to get buried after time.

3. It would be nice if users could flag a post with a rating like offensive or something similar. Then, users should be able to filter such posts from their news feed.

more thoughts later....

1. You can add contacts to private groups. In your list of friends, click on the little square on the right-hand side (next to the delete cross) and you get:

Message|View Friends|[Down arrow]

Click the down arrow to add to a list.

On the right-hand side of the Friends List page is a button, Make A New List.

I use this all the time although it doesn't extend into the features you are looking for. You can message a list but only if it 20 members or less.

2. Use the "Recent News" section of groups to keep important links at the top.
